In the growing age of trading card games, collectible card games, living card games and all of the accessories that come with them - platforms need to continue to keep up and innovate. Misplay was created in response to cater to the buyers, sellers, traders, and individuals who enjoy card games.

That’s what I would have said if I weren’t being transparent - realistically, I created this platform due to the many annoyances that I’ve encountered over the years of using other platforms:

not having a dedicated TCG or CCG market that offered selling collections, prize cards, etc. in an easy way
not being able to find cards because it’s too specific or
joining different Facebook groups for each card game I played or wanted to sell in but subsequently staying in the groups despite no longer playing the game and always forgetting to leave them
using Instagram messaging as if it was appropriate to use for high end sales involving thousands of dollars

Plain and simple - I wanted to create a platform to connect players, collectors, whoever to buy and sell with each other. Originally, this was a platform to discover local game stores and buy and sell with local players, but I think this works, too.

Of course, no platform is perfect and this is no different. It’s been over a year in development, there’s still bound to be plenty of bugs throughout the application and submitted feedback will be needed as support - so please submit if you can! Going forward, major changes and fixes will be posted as often as possible here.

How does it all work?

Currently, the two goals of buying and selling cards differ if you have a Stripe Seller Account or not. You can read more about this here.

Buying Cards

Browse Listings - Search by game (Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, and more), card name, condition, or seller.
Buy Now or Make Offer - Each listing shows the seller's price upfront. You can purchase immediately with Buy Now or submit an offer if you'd like to negotiate.
1. Secure Checkout is available for those who have a Seller Account - All payments are processed through Stripe, ensuring your payment information stays protected. Sellers never see your card details.
2. Track Your Order - Once purchased, track your order status from confirmation through shipping and delivery.
Leave a Review - After receiving your cards, rate your experience to help other buyers find trusted sellers. This only happens when there is a Completed Sale.

Selling Cards

Create a Listing - Upload photos, select the game and card details, set your condition, and price your card.
Manage Offers - Receive and respond to buyer offers directly through the Misplay.
Ship & Get Paid - Once sold, ship the card and mark it as shipped. Payments are held securely and released to your connected Stripe account after a brief hold period.

What’s a Wanted Board?

Post what you want - Describe the card you're looking for, including game, name, desired condition, and the price you're willing to pay.
Sellers Come to You - Sellers with matching inventory can view your want and reach out with offers through the messaging system.
Review & Accept - Compare offers from multiple sellers and choose the best match for you.

Comments are also an option, as some sellers prefer publicly comparing offers.

What about becoming a seller?

Currently, sign ups are disabled for becoming a seller (specifically using Stripe to list, sell and go through the shipping process), and are only opened by approval. In the future, after policies and the back end is complete, it’ll be open to everyone. For now, here’s how it works:

Getting Started

1. Connect with Stripe - We use Stripe Connect for secure, reliable payouts. Link your bank account through Stripe's secure onboarding process.

2. Verify Your Account - Complete identity verification that includes name, business or tax ID, etc. to unlock selling capabilities.

3. Create Your First Listing - The Buy Now button will be enabled, per your seller level limits.

As you build your reputation, you'll progress through seller levels that unlock better rates and higher limits

Understanding Fees & Payouts

Platform Fee - A percentage of each sale that decreases as you level up

Payment Processing - Standard Stripe processing fees apply (2.9% + $0.30), which are included.

Payout Holds - Funds are held briefly after a sale to protect against disputes. This hold period shortens as you build trust on the platform.

What about the future?

Right now, I want the platform to continue to develop and only create the things that people need to actually use it, while fixing anything that doesn’t make sense. I would say the platform is at about 80% complete when regarding feature sets and overall completion. There are things like collection tracking, more analytics (as people buy and sell), event scheduling, post discussions, etc. that I have in mind.

With plans to implement features based on feedback, fix known issues, write more articles, and continue to be open about what’s possible, I’m excited to see where this marketplace can go.
